Back in September when the new five pound note was introduced, charities launched the #FirstFiver campaign to encourage people to donate their first new note to a good cause. Last week the new pound coin was released into circulation, and following the success of the #FirstFiver campaign, which raised over £12.5m, charities haven’t waited to take advantage of another great fundraising opportunity.
The Institute of Fundraising (IoF), have said there is potential for charities to raise up to £21m through donations of the old, pound coin which will cease to be legal tender from the 15th October 2017.
Time to get social
Charities can use social media channels to help promote their cause by using the #PoundforPound hashtag. Many charities, including CAN customer Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust have been using innovative ways of encouraging people to donate their old coins:
