Start Up | Stay Up Social Enterprise Conference, 25-26 April 2016, London is designed to help aspiring social entrepreneurs set up social businesses and support more established social entrepreneurs to scale and grow their ventures.
The first day (25 Apr) will kick off with plenary presentations by Peter Holbrook, CEO Social Enterprise UK; Liam Black, the co-founder of Wavelength Companies (and author of The Social Entrepreneur's A to Z); and Paula Woodman, Senior Advisor Social Enterprise, British Council.
This is followed by an interactive Social Funding and Investment Surgery Session, facilitate by Micheal Norton, founder of CIVA where you will gain advice and have the questions answered. Companies include Clearlyso, Venturesome, CAN Invest, Community Shares Company, Buzzbnk, UnLtd, Big Issue Invest.
Two separate programmes will be offered in the afternoon: one for start-ups and one for more established social enterprises. We’ve invited UK’s leading social businesses such as HCT Group, Goodwill Solutions CIC, Green Rooms Hotel, Catch 22, Aduna, Tatty Bumpkin, Swarm Apprenticeships and Ogunte CIC, who will share their experience and learnings.
The programme for start-ups is designed to help you establish a social enterprise by imparting essential information about legal structures, funding, launch strategies, building successful partnerships and successfully launching products on a shoestring budget.
The programme for established social enterprises will look at how to scale social impact sustainably. The sessions will consider such critical topics as formulating a successful growth strategy, managing risk, negotiating with social investors, and scaling without losing your clear social purpose.
One the second day (26 Apr), three distinct full-day practical workshops will be offered on these themes:
- A - You have a business idea, now what?
- B - How to write a successful bid and funding application
- C - How to prepare a successful crowd-funding campaign
The event is being organised by The Fourth Sector, which helps individuals, foundations, corporates, non-profits and social enterprises around the world accelerate progress to create a better and more sustainable world.
