Wood Green, The Animals Charity set up new base at CAN

Since its foundation in 1924, Wood Green, The Animals Charity has expanded significantly. After outgrowing its London centre, the charity set up headquarters in Godmanchester in Cambridgeshire. The site has become one of the largest animal rehoming centres in Europe with around 5,000 animals rehomed every year and modern facilities for the care of dogs, cats, small and field animals. With three centres in the East Anglia and London area and nine charity shops, the animal charity currently work across five counties and hope to branch out even further.

Patrick Tang, Database Manager for Wood Green said, “We are currently in a transitional period so we are focusing on all the areas that a typical charity would have, such as data and customer service. We realise that we could have a wider reach so we intend to increase our core business which is animal rescue and intake. Our MarComms team will work to create more of a digital presence to raise awareness to people who don’t know about us and we aim to expand our retail hubs and bring the retail model for a charity shop up to date.”

We chose CAN Mezzanine for our next premises as we are looking to expand our team and being in central London makes it easier to recruit people.

"The next round of recruitment will be for support functions. We have a dedicated hotline for animal medical emergencies which we can respond to but otherwise it is more general. We are considering developing a call centre which will deal with routing calls regarding animal welfare queries and donor support issues to the right department.”

Wood Green are now able to provide further services which may not be possible for other animal organisations.

We deal with all animals, from dogs and cats to donkeys and ferrets. From emergency care to the path of full recovery, our organisation is committed to saving animals’ lives and finding them a forever home.

We deal with all animals, from dogs and cats to donkeys and ferrets. From emergency care to the path of full recovery, our organisation is committed to saving animals’ lives and finding them a forever home. Aside from our core business, we also take in animals for people who can’t look after them anymore. We have an initiative called Paws to Doors whereby people can find homes for animals without coming through our centres, which makes it quicker and less traumatic for the animal. Where other charities may outsource veterinary services, we have our own surgery and we collaborate with RSPCA on any overflow they may have or areas that they are less able to deal with.”

Similar to CAN, Wood Green also offer meeting rooms for hire with all profits contributing to the welfare of animals in their care. Find out how our central London office space could benefit your charity or social enterprise.
